This is a quote that seems to have nailed itself to the front of my mind for Camp NaNoWriMo.
The first draft is just you telling yourself the story.Terry Pratchett
It’s a simple quote that reminds us to focus on just getting the story down, on kneading out the story points with whatever plot ingredients you have in front of you.
For me, it helps ease that internal worry about making my writing pieces perfect the first time around. After all, making it perfect is what editing is for. This month as I’ve been writing, I’ve forgone fretting when my sentences don’t flow smoothly the first time, or when I can’t find the right word, or when I just can’t bridge the gap between one paragraph to another.
It’s inspired a kind of ‘screw it’ attitude in me, that I feel has had a positive impact on how I’ve tackled my writing this month.
What’s your inspiration for July?
