I’ve been a bit AWOL from blogging these past few weeks, but I have a good reason for it: I’ve been offered a new job!
It’s been a bit of a whirlwind period for me, as I didn’t start the year with the aim of getting a new job. I was originally contacted at the start of January about an interesting role as a software engineer and on a whim I decided to pursue it, not really believing I’d get anywhere with it. The interview process was quite a bit more intense than I’m used to, but I somehow managed to get through it all and I got the job offer just over a week ago! I really like the sound of the role and the company, so I’m excited to start.
So that’s what I’ve been up to these past few weeks! Continuing on from my 2018 habit of monthly goal setting, here’s a quick review of what I hoped to get done in January:
♢ Develop a basic idea of characters and potential plot directions for new story idea ♢ Finish Unit 2 of Italian Routledge Intensive workbook ♢ Try a new recipe from my recipe boo (a lentil & walnut spaghetti bolognese) ♢ Continue working on my React app ♢ Read a book from my bookshelf (Fairyland by Paul McAuley)
It’s been a fulfilling first month of the year. Alongside these, I started dermarolling, had another declutter of the clothes in my wardrobe, built a video streaming app in React, started doing yoga, made some new friends, and tried out a few cafés and restaurants in London too (including treating my mum to afternoon tea at the Bluebird Café in Chelsea, which was lovely). And a new job – happy 2019 to me!
My goals for February are similar to my January ones, but I’ve added a few more (at my own peril):
♢ Start writing planned story
♢ Read a bit about graphic and web design principles
♢ Read a book from my bookshelf
♢ Host my video streaming React app to add to my portfolio
♢ Try a new recipe from my recipe book
♢ Visit Athlone in Ireland & book a trip to Spain in May
♢ Try making my own shampoo with this recipe
It’s a little more than what I set out for January, but I thought since I managed to tick them all off last month, I might be able to add more to my list for February. If I don’t get them all done, then that’s fine!
What are your plans for February?
