2018 Goals In Review

Hello! We’re eight months into 2018 now, which means we’re three quarters of the way through the year already! How is this year going so quickly?

Since I tend to share my goals every month, I thought I may as well share a review of my 2018 goals so far too, just to share how far along I am with them and see if there’s anything I can do to make them more achievable. I did also do review in April too.

Original Goals:

♢ WRITING: To finish my current writing project, spending at least 35 hours on it every month by aiming to reach 50,000 words
I’ve reached the 22k mark
♢ FRIENDS: To catch up with my friends more often by keeping an eye on when I last spoke to them
I’ve kept track of when I last spoke to or saw friends
♢ EXERCISE: To keep up twice at least once a week gym sessions, and to try a kickboxing class
I’m still to try a kickboxing class, and I’m going to the gym weekly
♢ DIET: To track the sugary treats I eat, and make healthy batch meals for work lunches
I still eat a lot of rubbish but I do have healthy lunches
♢ BEAUTY: To get my teeth straightened up again Finish off my Invisalign treatment by November
I’m wearing my retainer regularly
♢ FINANCES: To save at least £500 a month To save up £6,000
I’ve managed to save £4100 so far
♢ CAREER: To brush up on PHP, Ruby, learn NodeJS, Angular, and React and testing and automation to the point where I can build a nice, simple app using these, add to my portfolio, and to attend interesting tech events
I’ve built an app in Ruby on Rails and having been getting familiar with Angular at work.
♢ ORGANISATION: To stop hoarding and have a huge clear out to declutter my things. Get rid of books, paperwork, unused beauty products and old university notes floating around clear the clutter above my wardrobe and next to my bookshelf
I’ve managed to clear out a lot in my wardrobe, and gotten rid of clothes and shoes, something I found very difficult to do before
♢ TRAVEL:To visit three international places and two places in the UK I’ve never been to before
I’ve visited Reykjavik, Iceland, Verona, Italy and Dublin, Ireland (I’m counting that as international as it’s not in the UK…). I have a trip to Budapest, Hungary booked for a wedding in September too. And I’ve visited Cardiff and Bristol!
♢ SKILLS:To actively improve my guitar playing by finishing an online guitar course and Italian language skills by working on them at least once a week completing the Duolingo app
I’ve been playing guitar almost every day since the start of the year, and have managed to reached all of my monthly Duolingo goals this year.

The amendments I’ve made will hopefully give me a better idea at the end of the year over whether I’ve achieved them or not, and something more measurable to aim for each month.

Updated 2018 Goals:

♢ WRITING: To finish my current writing project, by aiming to reach 50,000 words
♢ FRIENDS: To catch up with my friends more often by keeping an eye on when I last spoke to them
♢ EXERCISE: To keep up at least once a week gym sessions, and to try a kickboxing class

♢ SKILLS: To actively improve my guitar playing by finishing an online guitar course and Italian language skills by completing the Duolingo app

I think I’m doing well so far for 2018 regarding the goals I’ve set for 2018. Some of them I’m a little behind, others I’m right on track, and a couple I think I might be ahead of schedule, but there’s still a few months to go.

Fingers crossed I can pick up the pace on some of them and cross them all off by the end of the year!

Did you have any new years resolutions for this year? If so, how are they going?

  1. Reviewing goals is a fabulous idea! As someone guilty of forgetting to stick to resolutions, I’ll be sure to start reviewing too.
Wish you all the best with your goals! u go grrl!

    1. I agree, it’s so easy to set goals but also quite easy to forget about completing them. I only started reviewing my goals this year, and so far it’s been really effective in getting me to do them (I normally procrastinate on them for months!). Good luck to you with your goals too, I’m sure you’ll do well with all of them 🙂
