Planning for Camp NaNoWriMo

Where has the time gone?!

Camp NaNoWriMo is almost upon us, and that means it’s time to start setting our writing goals for the upcoming month!

Last Camp, I aimed for 55 hours and although I didn’t reach that goal, I managed to do 45 hours, which I was really pleased about as it was more than I’d been doing the previous months.

Because I’d been in the planning and outlining stages of my WIP at that point, I’d chosen to pick an hourly goal rather than a word count goal, and I came out of the end of it with a really thorough understanding of my plot.

This Camp, as I’ve since organised my scenes and fleshed out my characters, I’m setting a word count goal to work towards: 15,000 words!

I wanted to aim for something that will push me a bit but that I also think would be achievable… Fingers crossed, anyway!

During the last camp I found that it can be hard to stay motivated when you’ve set a goal quite high and you can see you’re not going to hit it the closer you get, so if you find that this is the case for you, try not to let it get you down; even if you don’t reach your goal, the work you’ve done on the way to get there will still count in the end! Check out my previous post here about staying motivated during Camp NaNoWriMo too, and even if you’re not participating, the tips in there should help with your writing motivation in general too!

If you’re taking part this July, or if you just want to keep an eye on my progress and make sure I’m not slacking, my username is ashleighmaund. Feel free to give me an add and we can encourage each other to keep going!

Fingers crossed I manage to reach my personal target of 15,000 words this time! Until then, I’m going to be spending the next week or so making sure I’m fully prepared for a month of (hopefully) non-stop writing.
