My Favourite Skincare Products for Winter

I love winter for so many reasons. Who doesn’t? You get to hide away in cosy knitwear and fluffy jumpers, catch up with family and friends over Christmas, and get to use the cold as a guiltless excuse not to go out.

I love all of that, but still, I’ll be glad to see spring when it comes, and I know I’m not the only one; as someone who suffers from dry skin in the winter, it’s been a pain learning exactly what I need to do when it comes to looking after my skin, but finally this winter I think I mastered it.

Because of my tendency to get a little greasy, I used to think of moisturising as completely unnecessary for me so it was never part of my skin routine, until I visited a dermatologist a year ago. And since then, I have been the moisturiser queen, I so I felt pretty prepared for this past winter.

1. Sk:n Facial Exfoliating Cleanser, £23.80 atm (normally £28.00)

This is what my dermatologist recommended for me to start using last February. It contains glycolic acid that helps remove dead skin cells and clear out pores, and since I’ve been using it, I’ve not had any breakouts and scars from previous spots have slowly faded too. It takes off all of my make up (even my most stubborn mascara) and always leaves my skin feeling so smooth and clean. It also goes a long way, as I’m still using the same bottle I bought a year ago!

2. Dermaquest DermaClear Serum, £51.00 atm (normally £60.00)

My dermatologist also recommended this to me, and I think using it alongside the cleanser has really helped my skin stay blemish-free and reduce old scarring. It contains alpha and beta hydroxy acids, which allegedly help exfoliate and unblock pores.

3. The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-In-Oil, £16.00

I love the Body Shop! I used to go in all the time to test out their fruity products, and decided to venture in last October after a non-intentional hiatus, and ended up coming out with a massive haul of stuff, including this serum. It’s very light-weight and doesn’t feel too greasy on the skin, although it looks it when you first put it on.

4. The Body Shop Pomegranate Firming Night Cream, £28.00

I think this might be discontinued now, as I can’t find a link to it on their site; there are a few places that are selling it though, including eBay! Despite this, I wanted to include it because I really like this moisturiser. It has soothing feel to it and is quite thick, yet doesn’t feel like it’s blocking my pores. Plus it smells great!

5. The Body Shop Vitamin E Eye Cream, £13.00

I’ve only been using this for the past couple of weeks around my eyes, and while I’ve not looked out for any differences specifically around my eyes, it goes on really nicely! And I don’t know if I’m imagining this or not, but the dark circles under my eyes seem to be fading since I started using this, but it might just be a coincidence.

6. Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask, £17.00

This isn’t something I use daily, but it is a product I am really loving at the moment and have been using weekly! I always use a cleanser before putting this mask on and I tend to leave it on for around 20 minutes. When I take it off with a wet flannel, my skin feels so refreshed, my pores look smaller and a lot clearer. While it’s on, I can actually see where the oils have been drawn out from the pores on my nose and on my cheeks, which is a little gross but it’s great to see it doing what it says it will!

There we have it, the skincare products that have gotten me through the winter! What products have you been using?

  1. I love the Vitmain E range from The Body Shop! The moisturiser and the overnight masks are skincare staples for me, so I’m looking forward to trying the others out. 🙂
